Um. I'll throw in a differing opinion here on "Morning Light". I absolutely hated it. Yes, I said I *hated* it. I've been a huge Mark Van Hoen fan ever since I got the "Needle" ep a few years back, and then began as a regular subscriber to all of his releases as Locust and Mark Van Hoen. I then delved deeper into his collaborations as Autocreation, Aurobindo, and Scala. I was very impressed with Scala, especially in that I had finally gotten the chance to hear vocals put to his music. I hadn't heard his work with Annie Williams, but I assumed it to be of the same quality (as i already dig Annie's vocals anyway). Once "Truth Is Born Of Arguments" came out, I was blown away at what an amazing album this was. It had all been leading up to this... what would the next Locust release sound like? Man, I can't wait. After about three listens to "Morning Light" I was completely disgusted. What is it exactly that you guys find positive about this album anyway? The vocals (ugh) are horrendous. I might as well start listening to the radio again ("Morning Light" sounds as if it's the name for a type of adult contemporary radio format... `we play the hits from Elton John, Rod Stewart, etc' every morning on `Morning Light''). There is no resemblance between this album and anything else Van Hoen has done under the `Locust' pseudonym before this point. I felt cheated thinking that his new album would be yet another Locust masterpiece (I had high expectations). "Morning Light" is pop. Pop... no trace of IDM. What's the point? Skim through the dollar bin at your local shop and you could find several no-name/no-talent bands coming up with the same crap that's on here. Mark Van Hoen has taken a turn for the worse... I honestly see no future in this venture. Is he wanting to break into `Top 40'? What's next... producing albums for crappy Euro-radio bands? I simply don't understand how (why?) a musician could go from "Truth Is Born Of Arguments" to "Morning Light". pop. .`-). | ; christopher miller o o' evil@digital.net = '

hey, I too did not really like Locust's _Morning Light_ (although I did not give it much of a chance, never bought it, just listened to it in the store). But speaking of artists taking a turn for the worse how about Manna? I *love* their first self titled album (the silver one). Dreamy bass lines, gorgeous synths, etc. But their new one (what the hell is is called? I can't even remember) was a total disappointment. Same problem I think, a bit too much pop. But hey, aren't _Morning Light_ and this new Manna on the same label, Apollo? How about the label taking a turn for the worse? --hh -/\= Hess M. Well, the new Thomas Fehlmann and Sun Electric albums, both on Apollo, are pretty good. adam
